Violin Intervention: Get Ready for a Deep Clean!

You've probably wondered at some point, 'How do I get my violin looking like new again?' Well, wonder no more! John Ferwerda is here to share his expert tips on how to give your violin a deep clean.

When a luthier (that's a fancy word for someone who makes and repairs to violins) does a violin deep clean they will take off the strings and any other detachable parts - we're talking about the bridge, tailpiece and then the sound post.

Next, whilst a luthier does a violin deep clean they will use a fine cloth, with a mix up some chalk and water - yes, you read that right! Chalk can be your new best friend when it comes to removing rosin residue and getting rid of those pesky sticky fingers marks.

If you're not a professional luthier, it's best to leave doing a deep clean to the professionals, for example, if you move the sound post whilst cleaning yourself you will find it's not as easy as it looks to get that tiny piece of wood exactly where it needs to be.
