Bow Rehairs

Violin-World can deliver same-day bow rehairs with high quality materials and workmanship. Professional bow rehairs at the most affordable price of $65.00.

Bow Rehairs

Same-day bow rehair can only be completed if the bow is brought to the workshop before 10.30a.m. For inter-state and overseas customers, bows need to be sent in a tube with padding.

Do's and Don'ts on the care of your bow

  • Loosen you bow hair when it is not being used. The camber in the stick is created with heat, and if tile hair is not loosened it will return to its original straight form

  • Do not leave your bow too long in an unopened case. If you do, you will find broken hair, the work of the larvae of the carpet beetle, which shelters in the linings. These larvae also attack tortoise-shell and whalebone. Place a piece of camphor in one of your case pockets if you intend to keep the case closed for any length of time

  • Reverse your bow in your case. Some lids exert pressure on the bow stick and. will cause it to bend to the left or right

  • Have your bow rehaired regularly. Do not allow too many hairs to be missing for it may pull the stick crooked

  • Do not blame your bow repair man but instead the weather if your hair gets too short or too long. Hair stretches and shrinks

  • Have your repairs done only by an expert

  • Do not replace tile screws or frog of your bow unless absolutely necessary. The fine playing qualities of your bow could be altered by making unnecessary changes

  • Do not allow the hair off your bow to become bald for when you rosin your bow, all you accomplish is a cloud of rosin dust. Remember the 'teeth' become worn down with playing

  • Do not allow the ivory tip to remain cracked or missing. The bow head could be damaged, so always make sure that the bow’s head plate is in one piece

  • Do not wear the bow stick at the finger end. This can be prevented by covering the end with a leather or contact paper lapping

  • Do not applaud with your bow stick against a music stand

  • Do not drop your bow

  • Do not swish your bow in order to get rid of excess rosin. It may snap off the head

Some of the advice above may seem obvious yet many people even forget the basics of instrument care.
